Spinning John McCain

Spinning John McCain

Okay, so I hate that everyone is writing about the campaign – and I can’t get any of my stinkin’ clients mentioned unless they can comment on politics, the economy or weight. What’s a girl to do other than just jump into it with them. I watched Jon Stewart for the first time in eons last night. Although his ego seems to be growing in inverse proportion to his ability to make me laugh, I loved how he matched McCain’s “new” speech to his old one at the Republican Convention. You can watch it here. It’s a good message for PR people. We work with our talking points so much, we sometimes can’t tell what’s actually fresh and what isn’t. And journalists aren’t getter better at it either. That’s due to the combination of ever-increasing number of talking heads and bimbos on TV as well as the poor print journalists who are so overworked they don’t have a fighting chance. (If you want to see a hysterical video of the ‘Babes on Fox’ go to YouTube here. )

I think we should all make a habit of showing our pitches and other work to colleagues who haven’t worked in that niche before. You’d be amazed at the benefits an objective opinion can yield. Maybe that’s what McCain’s camp needs. In the meantime, Jon Stewart, go back to being funny. I miss you.
